Day 26: Genesis 41-42

Being Struck by Lightening
Do you need some circumstances changed in your life?

Two more years have past and still no change in Joseph's circumstances. He has been waiting and waiting and waiting. In this chapter we see just how fast God can change a circumstance. In one day, Joseph goes from a galley slave to 2nd in command of the most powerful nation on earth! Think of it in today's terms. Someone sitting in jail with a life sentence with no chance of parole is released and exalted to the Vice-Presidency of the United States … IN ONE DAY

Gen 41:14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh.

I love how fast God can change a circumstance in our life. What seems to be a dark hour in our life is really the last of the night just before the sun arises.

When we've been praying for a circumstance to change but we seem to be stuck in the pattern of waiting and waiting and waiting. Then all of a sudden...FLASH things are answered with lightening speed. You’ve been praying to meet a godly person and FLASH There she or he is. You’ve been praying for finances only to get laid off but then FLASH a phone call concerning your resume with a job offer with more pay! You’ve been praying for a family member to come to Christ and FLASH you receive a phone call asking you to take them to church.

When God decides to move on our behalf, it can happen with lightening speed. What we must do in the mean time is to wait expectantly for the Lord to answer on our behalf. We don't wait just to be waiting! We wait and expect an answer. For example, we don’t wait in a long line at the grocery store for the fun of it. No, we wait because we expect to purchase our groceries and then go home and enjoy them.

We need to be waiting with expectancy for the Lord to do something in our life.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Joseph is the example of the man who went through some many bad circumstances and an example how God can bring blessings out of it. How did Joseph keep from being weary and how could he handle all the unfair things which came upon him? Where did his faith, strength and patience come from?

All of these questions and answers are found in God's mercy and grace being upon him. If God didn't hold Joseph’s life in His hands it wouldn't be possible for him to keep the faith. How many people think God's blessings are just the things we see in the material realm? Like financial blessings, material possession or an answer to a prayer request.

God does bless us in these areas but God is more interested in our spiritual blessings. The greatest blessing we can have is God Himself and knowing He is with us and in us. I am not trying to discourage everyone by saying God's physical blessings aren't important. They are but knowing we have God Himself with us far surpasses any physical blessing.
.
Joseph understood and rested in knowing God. This is why he wasn't discouraged when everything physically was taken away: family, friends, and even his freedom. He still had God with him and this gave him strength. It’s better to be in a dungeon with God than to be on top of the world without God. The Lord held Joseph's life in His hand and Joseph waited patiently on God's will. We must also keep our faith upon Him and realize our strength comes by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we know God is with us, we can praise God in the bad times, the good times, when God answers prayers or when He hasn't answered our prayers. If we need help let's invite Jesus to help us.
